Duke and I’s first barrel race ever is next Wednesday. 6 years ago, we were unsuccessfully showing low jumpers. Our last show was county fair in hunters and equitation back when I was a junior in high school. And here we are today. I’m so proud of Duke. Once I moved to a boarding barn, we became isolated from the outside equine world. Now, we are in a totally different world because of my school. I never realized how unbroke Duke was let alone how shitty of a rider I was before going to BHE. Here we are a year later, throwing ropes, learning reining moves, pleasuring down and extending up, while turning barrels. He is my all around horse I have always wanted. We still have a long ways to go. But where he is right now is just fine too. We will improve together as a team; Day by day. I couldn’t ask for a better partner in crime! I love my Hazard <3
As you can see, Duke is NOT pleased with this whole riding in the heat thing. The western one was taken Monday and the english one was taken Tuesday… LOOK AT THAT DIFFERENCE!

Swoopers
I am privileged to work with this horse everyday. Because everyday we prove everybody wrong.
Swoop’s first day back in the saddle
So Duke and I have been adventuring through fields and woods the past few days to find my boss’s dog. Well, we went into what was once our little “trail” in the woods. However, there is no more trail. It’s all overgrown with new little trees, fallen branches, tall grasses and such. Well, Duke and I meander through it. My horse seriously thinks of himself as an adventuring bad ass. He goes in these woods walking on what used to be the path and the next thing I know, Duke is ducking down his head dodging branches and walking through these mini trees on a mission. I was cracking up this whole entire time, because here is this horse that didn’t even act like he was broke a year ago in the indoor arena at school but can go through a wooded area listen to que and be the happiest son of a gun in the world doing it. I love my weirdo! Day = Made

Pinocchio before and after. He got his mane pulled, whiskers trimmed and a bath!
This handsome boy just might be getting a bath today :)

I put Scott Dixon’s(Yes Number 9 Target car in Indy Car) daughter on Duke one day when they were out visiting Otis (Scott’s wife’s horse). Keep in mind, this was posted two weeks ago and my friend was like, “that horse Scott’s daughter was riding on his twitter page wasn’t Duke was it?” It was :) Proud parent! Haha
Videos of Duke from 2010 and down. His temperament from just six months ago has chilled out which means I need new videos of him!

(taken a few weeks ago)
I ride everyday but I rode Dukers and Swoop today. We will talk about Swoop’s ride because he was the last one I rode today. Basically, Swoop did freakin awesome! His head was low and relaxed at the walk. He was very responsive to rein and leg yields, while keeping a low, collected head at the trot, but he still covered a lot of ground. He still needs some work on his left diagonal. I’m so freaking pleased with his canter! He stopped over collecting and finally got it in his head that he needs to use his back end too not put all the power in his front end. I was more impressed that he was better on his right lead than his left. Now he just needs to learn to stay in the canter and not break because he doesn’t know what to do when he looses his momentum. Ya know, three weeks ago I’m riding a crazy thoroughbred (off the track since 2009) who hasn’t really been ridden since fall and tried to kill me the second I got in the saddle is now back in shape enough to start over jumps again, and this time, we are doing it right. I love this horse. He seriously is the most naturally athletic, nicest structured horse I have basically ever seen!
